This capacitor calculator determines the total capacity of a group of either in series or in parallel capacitors in its two calculating tabs. Below the form you can find more on this subject.

Before pressing "Calculate" button, please input all the capacity values in parallel separated by semicolon (;)

## How does this capacitor calculator work?

This is a useful tool that computes the total capacity of a group of capacitors, either capacitors in series or in parallel. The capacitor calculator is designed with two tabs, one for the series calculation and one for the capacitors in parallel calculation. All you have to do is choose the right tab, enter the data required which is the capacitor values separated by semi colon then the tool will do the work.

### Series circuit

This is the electric circuit in which the current goes through every component in that circuit, because the components are placed one following the other. The formula for the total capacity of a group of series capacitors is equal to the sum of the capacitor’s individual resistances:

C total = 1/(1/C1 + 1/C2 + 1/C3 ... + 1/Cn)

where C total is the total capacity and C is the parallel capacitors capacity.

Let’s take for instance the case of a circuit with 3 capacitors in series. The series capacitors are: 15;7;10; Total capacity of the specified group of capacitors in series circuit is: 3.23 farad (F)

### Parallel circuit

This is the electric circuit in which the components of the circuit are connected between two points. One of the two ends of each component is connected to each point. The components can either be simple elements of branches that have elements in series.

The formula for the total capacity of a group of parallel capacitors is:

C total = C1 + C2 + C3 ... + Cn

where C total is the total capacity and C is the series capacitors capacity.

Example: a circuit with 5 capacitors in parallel. The parallel capacitors are: 4;5;6;8;9; Total capacity of the specified group of capacitors in parallel circuit is: 32.00 farad (F)

## What is a capacitor?

This is basically a device that is used to store electric charge, energy electrostastically in a field. It is composed of at least two conductors or more plates that are separated by a dielectric, insulator. It was first known under the term condenser.
