How does this depression test work?

This is a quick personal assessment that can help you check whether you undergo any relevant signs that you might suffer from a depressive disorder and also pin points how many depression symptoms you have confronted with so far.

The depression test is organized in four sections; each one containing questions or statements that describe the most important symptoms and experiences a depressed individual might feel.

After all the questions are answered and all statements are filled in, the test will count how many of the depressive symptoms were checked then it will display within the result a percent together with a short description of the disorder level.

Example of a result

Depression symptoms: 42.00% - Depression symptoms status: Borderline depression.

Your answers on the four sections of the depression test show it is likely that you suffer from a depressive disorder in a mild state. There are some common depression symptoms you have encountered so far which means you should analyze and react each time such depression symptoms occur. It is recommended for you to search for a professional assessment of your mental health especially if what you are experiencing now seems to be getting worse in time.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, depressive disorders affect about 17 percent of all adults during their lifetime in a degree or another. It is most important to assess the gravity and persistence of feelings and symptoms related to depression and ask for medical assistance whenever necessary. This mental disorder can affect every aspect of one’s life.

Moderate life stressors can cause a temporary form of depression that typically starts within three months of the event and lasts less than six months and are usually treated with counseling.

In terms of psychotherapy, this can be either individual or in group and the latest type of cognitive behavioral therapy is said to have good effects as well.

In terms of medication, the most used are antidepressants active on brain neurotransmitters and aiming to regulate the chemical imbalances, especially those of serotonin and norepinephrine. The latest and most used are the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, SSRIs or monoamine oxidase inhibitors MAOIs because of their action and the lack of adverse effects.
