How does this age difference calculator work?

This is a quick calculator that allows you to compute the age difference in a relationship or between any two people.

It simply generates the ages of the two subjects according to the birth dates you input in the form and once you press Calculate it delivers the result.

Please note that there is no importance on the order the two dates of birth are specified as the age difference calculator makes the absolute difference between the chronological age in each case and specifies which person is older. The results are exemplified in the section below.

Apart from the age, there are several other aspects people tend to look at when trying to figure out whether a specific relationship has good prospects or not such as horoscope and numerology compatibility.

Example of an age difference calculation

Let’s take for example the age gap between someone born on April 17 1990 and someone born on August 29 1994. The result is:

■ The age difference between the two persons is 4 years, 4 months, 12 days.

■ Person 2 is older than Person 1 with 4 years, 4 months, 12 days.

■ Person 1 is 24 years, 9 months, 7 days old, while Person 2 is 20 years, 4 months, 26 days old.

The “half your age plus seven” rule of age difference

This is a rule with far origins in regard of the social acceptance of a big relationship age gap. It states that one should never date anyone under half their age plus seven years.

Let’s take an example: The male protagonist in our story is 46. He is interested to date our female protagonist aged 27.

Would this be considered socially appropriate? At a first glance, there is a difference of 19 years between the two. But does this pass the rule? 46 divided by 2 means 23. 23 plus 7 equals 30. Therefore, according to the above rule, this potential relationship is not so adequate.

Of course there is a lot of controversy around this rule of thumb, especially nowadays, but it is said to have originated in France and set as a formula for suitability of a bride for marriage to an older man.

Age disparity in relationships is a very often searched aspect and many people are referring to it when analyzing the compatibility between two persons.

Let’s see what is the difference in married and un-married couples according to America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2012 and conclude yourself on what that has to say about our habits:
